2-26-06: Blues My Naughty Sweetie Gives to Me

Song: Blues My Naughty Sweetie Gives to Me
Artist: Sidney Bechet

Why we like this song: It's rough and mean and gritty and fun. I like the old ragtime-New-Orleans feel, and the way the song builds to Bechet's rough and mean and gritty and fun clarinet solo. It literally gives me goose bumps whenever I hear it...seriously, right now it's my favorite song. Paul and I found it after searching on swingdjs.com for some good Sidney Bechet music, and we have since heard it and witnessed some spectacular dances to it at dance events like ULHS in Minneapolis.
p.s.--This one should feel familiar to our dance students as it's the one we warm up to at the beginning of class!

2-26-06: A Mellow Bit of Rhythm

Song: A Mellow Bit of Rhythm
Artist: Andy Kirk and Mary Lou Williams
Album: Mary's Idea

Why we like this song: The intro on this one is awesome! And the chords on that first riff make me want to cause some serious mischief. It's just an all around playful song that get's me dancing every time I hear it. If you like this song, check out the entire album. Our friend Javier first introduced us to this album when he found it for Purdue's dance club, the Purdue Night Train. It kicks booty in a major way. Thanks Javier!
